Primer in color
I would like to pay your attention to a problem with color base and its influence on the final color of a topcoat. Careful selection of color bases is very important in the process of painting. It depends on several factors.
Nowadays, you may notice that there are more and more new cars with a metallic tint. Thanks to increased content of pearl pigments and xyralics, these colors are so saturated. These additives provide an aesthetic effect, but on the other hand, they made the covering less precise.
It is also worth mentioning the prevailing trend among manufacturers - to save paint - what I mean is not painting engine compartments or using thinner and thinner layers of the topcoats. In extreme situations, in case of new cars - the primer put under the layer of topcoat is visible to “the naked eye ".
Moreover, in view of protection of the environment, that is very popular nowadays, producers of automotive coatings were forced to stop using harmful substances such as lead and chromates (previously used for paints manufacture). So far, above mentioned components were responsible for the precision of paint covering. These changes contributed to the modification used in factory painted cars, and thus in the technology that is implemented during repairing and renovating works. And at this point we return to the topic of coats in various colors.
Some of the manufacturers of refinishing paints together with a recipe for a particular color provide color of the primer that should be used. It is supposed to help painter at work, however, does not relieve him from the verification of this information himself. It may happen though, that the manufacturer will change the color of the primer during production process. It occurs in a repainting process or a modification made already in a factory. Therefore, this is a painter who decides about the color of the primer used during repairing works.
