Small repairs of painting coats

In the performance of paint repair it is not always necessary to paint whole parts. Sometimes it is possible to make minor repairs by spraying method, called Smart. Such small repairs take less time, material consumption is much smaller, interference in coating is less invasive – generally it gives us advantages but we must also remember that in such small repairs there are some limitations that may affect the final result. First of all, not every place on the surface of the car ensures that after the repair difference between the original and painted element will be imperceptible. To comply with small painted surfaces I do not recommend the central part of elements but rather the extreme of their parties. Doing small repair we should always consider the risk of failure and the necessity of re-painting and also the profitability of the operation involves. Secondly, we also need to provide additional obstacles that may concern the ground which we repair. For example, the previous layer can characterize by so high hardness that it will be impossible to gain unobtrusive access of lacquer 2K. It happens that the car coating has features of instability, what means it is not fully cured. This may concern not only repaired surfaces but also already factory painted reconditioned (OEM). On such elements we will have problems with making small repairs because the materials that will be imposed will dissolve the substrate. Small repair is to restore a lacquer layer on small surface, but not only topcoat lacquer. Sheet inequality should be reversed, the layer of anticorrosion should be rebuilt. Masking surfaces should be made by using special foil. Work begins with cleaning and degreasing with silicone remover. Then we grind surface to remove scratches and cracks. We try not to expand unnecessarily the surface repair. In order to eliminate surface irregularities we use polyester putty. After sending with appropriate gradation abrasive paper we can cover it with high building primer. Before using high building primer I recommend to use reactive primer. This can protect pure sheet in exposed areas during the sending. Proceed to prepare the surface for painting – send the primer and the place where we make blending with base coat and clear coat. The area prepared under the base layer of paint should be polish with papers with gradation indicated to the base layer, but area which will be blended we have to polish with paper of lower gradations. If we use waterborne base (for example AquaLine PROFIX) we can make blending immediately in areas of painting. For clear coat we have to use fade out thinner to be sure that surface of fade out will be smoother, also polishing will be easier. To fasten drying time of clear coat and primer we can use accelerator but we have to remember about correct proportions. When spraying a small area we should use small equipment . With such equipment work is much easier and during application only slight amount of vapor is produced.. Polishing will be completion of the work. I recommend universal polishing compound EASY with wax of PROFIX brand.
