When the first frosts appear we began to wonder how we can paint efficiently in lower temperatures. In wintertime, it is definitely easier and faster to grind “on dry“..

Since, proceeding with grinding “on wet” does not seem to be convenient at those conditions.

Using polyester putties together with infra red (IR) gives a very good drying effect (not only in winter). However, at this point we need to be aware that the element that is being repaired should have been previously heated, otherwise, corrosion may appear. While using the hardener let’s keep in mind the recommended by the producer proportions. Hardener overuse may cause discoloration of the surface layers or even delay the process of hardening.

We should avoid so called “heating guns” that accelerate drying of the putties. When using “a heating gun” on the thick putty layer, we need to be aware of the fact that only a top layer will be actually heated, the rest will dry unevenly.

Preparation works could be smoother and quicker with the use of so called fast thinners. While talking about filling primers, I do not recommend using additives accelerating time of drying, since the process of hardening may not be as regular as it should.

The right temperature in the paint shop is a key factor, when we are talking about working with basecoats. It is essential to let the paint evaporate evenly. In this way we will avoid so called “cloud effect” on already painted surface.

Evaporation of a base layer can be accelerated by IR, provided that the materials previously applied were also dried in the same way.

When working with infrared radiators, we need to remember that elements made of plastic such bumpers might deform due to temperature.

A process of drying of two-component coatings including colorless, can be faster when using so-called \"accelerators\". Used in accordance with the recommendation, substantially reduces the time of drying, but the additives overuse may give rise to unpleasant surprises which may appear on the painted surface in the form of \"orange peel\" or \"pin hole\".

In deed, we can make use of faster thinners and hardeners, but when using IR please remember to keep the layers previously dried in the same way.

All of these materials and accelerating methods can be used throughout the year, though sensibly and in right proportions.
